WHY DO VEGANS HATE DOJA CAT?
DOJA CAT EXPLOITS ANIMALS FOR PROFIT BUT IN THE MOST DISGUSTING WAY POSSIBLE
We’re used to people saying “fuck vegans” and stuff like that. Isn’t everyone used to that in this age of online trolls? Language like that has become cliché at this point, and frankly it’s beneath us all.
Doja Cat’s breakthrough song about being a “Cow, bitch” is offensive for other reasons than petulantly saying “fuck vegans.”
In here GENIUS interview, she wears the same racy cow costume she wore in her video and talks about how she doesn’t know any Wu-Tang lyrics except the one she lifted from C.R.E.A.M. and how she thought stealing Kelis Lyrics was “genius.” The interview is disheartening because she comes off as ignorant regarding her own medium. By the way, RZA, arguably the true genius behind Wu-Tang Clan, has been vegan for 30+ years.
What she isn’t ignorant about is animal cruelty. She talks about her lyrics about methane from factory farms damaging the environment and ties it to food she’s consuming on camera, saying “don’t do what I do.”
She sings about cows on steroids and how the daughters of cows get slaughtered, too. There’s even some possibly accidentally poignant verses on the sexual exploitation of animals by their farmer overlords.
So, she isn’t ignorant about what goes on cow farms or even how we pretend the cows are on green pastures. In fact, she seems more informed than most people I come across.
Then why the perverse attitude and despicable display?
I liken it to actions by other famous people, but for some reason I’m most reminded of Thomas Jefferson. It might seem odd to compare her to someone like that, but T.J. was a long-time slaveowner at 22, and he was anything buy ignorant about the plight of people under the yoke of others.
Isn’t Doja Cat saying, “I like animals, but I also eat them, so I’m conflicted,” a lot like Thomas Jefferson saying “all men are created equal” but continuing to own slaves?
Thomas Jefferson even called for the measured progression toward the abolition of slavery. And we rightly still call him a monster and a hypocrite. His legacy is tarnished by his continued ownership of slaves and his rape of at least one of them.
So, even though we’re all used to people saying stupid things about veganism or simply being wrong and hypocritical, Doja Cat is particularly offensive because she is singing about animal sexploitation, making tons of money doing so, wearing a revealing cow costume, and eating a cheeseburger all at the same time.
It’s cartoonishly perverse as if from the mind of a twisted serial killer on meth.
Thomas Jefferson selling pornography of himself raping Sally Hemings in black face, wearing drag, and somehow simultaneously stabbing her baby. That’s how gruesome the scene Doja Cat is making truly is.
It’s hard to see because it’s packaged in such a way that makes her seem edgy and rebellious, punching down on a small community of activists and a giant group of oppressed creatures. It’s hard to see because most of what she is doing is considered normal by mainstream bourgeois America. It’s hard to see because we’re hearing what’s admittedly a catchy tune, though almost wholly reliant on the efforts of other musicians’ work.
But if you actually give a damn about an ethical life led mitigating oppression, and if you actually care about the planet or any of the things you probably claim to care about, dear reader, there it is.
This is fall of the Roman empire type shit. This Caligula having orgies with his sister. This is laughing at bearbaiting and dogfighting and bullfights.
An if you’re not offended or at least disgusted, I don’t know why you’re reading this. I’m still surprised people who can read defend animal cruelty, but I guess that’s on me.
